The Preventive Principle of Don Bosco
The educational system of Don Bosco is based on prevention and is founded on three pillars:
Reason → explaining clearly to students what is expected of them and guiding them with logic and consistency.
Religion / Moral Values → instilling a sense of responsibility, respect, and solidarity.
Love / Kindness → supporting students with patience, guidance, and personal attention.
The objective is to prevent misconduct rather than punish in a purely repressive manner.
Alignment of the DBT School Life Charter with the Preventive Principle
Explicit commitment: the charter clearly defines what students are expected to respect, thus acting as a preventive tool through clarity.
Progressive sanctions: verbal and written warnings precede any serious sanction, in line with the preventive approach.
Educational support: each level of sanction is associated with reflective work, psychosocial follow-up, or pedagogical remediation, corresponding to guidance through love and reason.
Parental involvement: dialogue with families reinforces prevention, responsibility, and cooperation..
Focus on kindness and safety: respect, protection of others, and a safe school climate are essential preventive elements.
General Principle
Any sanction has an educational purpose. It aims to:
promote student accountability,
restore the educational framework,
protect the school community,
prevent recurrence.
Sanctions are progressive, except in cases of serious misconduct, where immediate action may be taken.
