BP, BT, TS and LT Explained: Your Guide to Technical Education in Lebanon

Four diplomas, one ladder. Here is how technical education in Lebanon works and where each step can take you.

Many parents in Lebanon still see technical education as a “plan B.” In reality, it is a complete, state-recognized pathway that can take a student from intermediate school all the way to a bachelor-level degree, with real job skills at every step. The key is understanding the four diplomas.

The four levels at a glance

Diploma Full name Typical entry point What it prepares you for
BP Brevet Professionnel After intermediate school A skilled trade and direct entry into work
BT Baccalauréat Technique After the Brevet (grade 9) Technician jobs or further study at TS level
TS Technicien Supérieur After a BT or the Lebanese Baccalaureate Senior technician and supervisory roles
LT Licence Technique After a TS Bachelor-level expertise, management and specialist roles

Entry requirements and program length depend on the level and the major, so always check the admission documents for your chosen program.

BP: learn a trade, fast

The BP is the most hands-on level. It suits students who want to master a profession quickly. At Don Bosco Technique, BP majors include culinary arts, automotive engine mechanics, electricity, accounting assistant, and physical and sports education.

BT: the technical baccalaureate

The BT is the technical equivalent of the Lebanese Baccalaureate. Students study general subjects alongside a specialization, then choose between work and further study. Don Bosco Technique offers ten BT majors, from information technology and electricity to hospitality, preschool education and music. TS: become a senior technician

The TS is a post-secondary diploma that deepens expertise and adds management skills. TS majors at Don Bosco Technique include hotel management, business management, automotive mechanics, physical and sports education, preschool education and social work, and audiovisual.

LT: a bachelor-level technical degree

The Licence Technique completes the ladder. It gives TS graduates a higher qualification without leaving the technical track. Don Bosco Technique’s LT options cover:

  • Physical education and sports science
  • Hotel management and food safety
  • Business management, business administration, accounting and auditing
  • Mechatronics, industrial production, pneumatics and industrial maintenance, renewable energy

Why technical education makes sense today

  • Graduates leave with practical skills employers need right now.
  • You can stop at any level to work, then come back to continue.
  • Future-proof work. Even in the age of AI, someone still has to install, maintain, repair and build. As Don Bosco Lebanon’s executive director Joe Atallah puts it, working with your hands is “not a secondary path.”
