BP1 MM
Program Description
Professional Certificate – Year 1 (BP1), Automotive Mechanics (Engine Mechanics)
The first year program of the Professional Certificate in Automotive Engine Mechanics (BP1) aims to introduce students to the technical and practical foundations of the automotive mechanic profession. It combines theoretical instruction with practical workshop activities to develop the professional skills required for vehicle maintenance, diagnosis, and repair.
The program includes seven main specialization subjects, which are complementary and progressive, in addition to general education subjects. These courses constitute the technical foundation of the automotive mechanic trade.
This program is designed for relatively young students, providing a gradual introduction to automotive mechanics. At the end of the training, students are prepared to work as workshop assistants rather than fully qualified mechanics.
- Arabic – BP1
Development of reading, writing, oral and written expression skills, and comprehension of simple texts to ensure effective communication.
- French – BP1
This course aims to develop students’ linguistic skills for clear and effective communication in their future professional environment.
- English – BP1
Topics include grammar, vocabulary, pronunciation, reading, writing, speaking, and listening comprehension.
- Information Technology – BP1
This course enables students to use mechanical simulation software, manage technical files and documents, communicate and search for information related to mechanics, and use office software to prepare reports and technical sheets.
- Mathematics – BP1
A course covering various topics to develop students’ mathematical skills.
- Physics – BP1
This course studies motion and the forces that produce it. It explains the physical states of matter and their transformations, the effects of temperature, and heat transfer between materials in contact.
- Chemistry – BP1
The chemistry course studies atomic and molecular structure and the classification of chemical elements into acids, bases, and salts.
- Civic Education – BP1
This subject addresses the concept of education and its sources, civic institutions, social and civic values, citizenship (participation, etc.), morality, etiquette, respect, and civic culture.
- Pastoral Education – BP1
To form young students into good Christians and honest citizens by developing their faith, identity, life skills, and Salesian joy through a weekly pastoral session.
- General Technology I – BP1
This course introduces students to basic fitting work in the mechanical workshop. It aims to develop mastery of hand tools, measuring instruments, and techniques such as marking out, sawing, chiseling, and filing. Students also learn hygiene and safety rules, workstation organization, and the use of protective equipment. This module is an essential introduction to precision practices in automotive mechanics.
Workshop Practice: Fitting and Welding – BP1
This practical module enables students to acquire basic skills in fitting and welding. Students learn manual operations such as filing, drilling, boring, tapping, threading, and mechanical assembly. The course also covers gas welding, electric arc welding, MIG-MAG, and TIG welding, with an emphasis on precision, safety, and work quality. This module forms an essential foundation for professional automotive mechanics practice.
Technical Communication I – BP1
This course introduces students to the fundamentals of technical drawing applied to mechanics. It develops the ability to read, interpret, and produce simple sketches and drawings according to graphic standards. Students learn to use drawing instruments, scales, line types, dimensioning, projections, and thread representation. This module provides a solid foundation in graphic communication, essential for understanding and designing mechanical parts.
Principles of Automotive Electricity I – BP1
This course introduces students to the basics of automotive electricity. It covers the nature and effects of electric current, fundamental laws (Ohm’s Law, Joule’s Law), and measurement of electrical quantities. Students learn to identify and use laboratory instruments, build simple circuits, and interpret electrical diagrams. The module also addresses generators, receivers, batteries, accumulators, and concepts of magnetism and electromagnetism, forming an essential basis for automotive electrical studies.
Automotive Technology I – BP1
This course provides a comprehensive overview of fundamental automotive systems. Students learn to identify vehicle types, internal combustion engines, and their components. The course covers engine systems, valve timing, transmission, clutch systems, manual and automatic gearboxes, suspension, steering, braking systems, and front-end geometry. It also addresses carburetion, combustion principles, and anti-pollution devices. This module forms a foundational understanding of overall vehicle operation and major mechanical systems.
